Belly Dancing |
Tamara was born during the civil war in Beirut, Lebanon. Although she moved from her homeland at the young age of five, she never stopped celebrating that culture's richness and magnificence. Tamara grew up dancing and entertaining family and house guests. This beautiful dance is her very bond to her memories, culture, and femininity. Her natural movements and ear for the music encouraged her to pursue studying the art and history of Oriental dance.
Tamara began training in the summer of 2000 and has since had an array of instructors, including Cassandra, Momo, Samara, Camelia, Jalina,Soraya, Raqia Hassan, Farida Fahamy, and Dina. Tamara has travelled the world and has had dance training from the living legends. She recently visited Beirut, Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, and Greece. Her greatest mentors include her mother, grandmother, sisters and the close female community which enveloped her life. It is through them, through their being that she has come to understand the essence of Middle Eastern dance.
Tamara's style is deeply rooted in traditional Oriental dance, which is apparent in her delicate attention to detail. Each movement is evoked by the connection that she makes with her music; a combination of precise technique and emotion. Tamara's interpretation of each rhythm and sound is inspired from the heart. Her free style is exciting and elegant. |
Cardio Kick Boxing
Beginning April 10th, 2007 on Tuesdays at 7:00 P.M. |
Cardio kickboxing -- a combination of aerobics, boxing, and martial arts -- is one of the most popular fitness trends to hit gymnasiums in recent years. These workouts, which are inspired by martial arts, have motivated many people to start a fitness program.
This intense, total-body worko ut can improve strength, aerobic fitness, flexibility, coordination, and balance.1 The American Council on Exercise (ACE), which evaluates exercise products and programs, notes that, during a one-hour kickboxing workout, you can burn from 500 to 800 calories, which is up to twice the calories you burn during a one-hour step-aerobics class.
Kickboxing classes can be a great alternative for people who have become bored with weight-room cardiovascular activities, such as brisk walking or jogging on a treadmill. They also provide an option for people who enjoy the "semi-dance" movements found in aerobics or step classes. However, kickboxing-style fitness programs are not necessarily geared toward the beginner. The beginning cardio kick boxer must have above-average endurance, strength, and flexibility. |
